The Big 40!

Yes that's right, I'm 40 years old! Wow! I must say this was one of the best birthdays I've ever had. It all began when I woke up and my sweet husband said, "I took the day off and we can do whatever you want. I'm at your disposal." So the freak that I am, I said, "Let's do that next project in my kitchen redo plan." Isn't that what all women would do? We didn't upgrade our cabinets. They had no depth to them. So I wanted to build a decorative top on this cabinet above the microwave. Sounds simple, right? But then I pointed out that our next step is crown moulding and it would not look right if the cabinet wasn't out further than the others. See how they started out all flush.
Soon we were taking down the entire cabinet. Which wouldn't come down until we took the microwave down because two screws were blocked by the microwave. Soon we had a beautiful hole in the kitchen cabinets.

And a lovely pile of building materials all over the kitchen. First we put up boards to mount the cabinet to and that would pop it out. Then we built the decorative box. We just happened to have an extra piece of oak wood the builder left from our staircase, and we actually had some stain that matched. Believe it our not my awesome husband and I got it all built and put back together in less than 4 hours. Bet you wish you had a husband like mine.

This is the finished product. I can't wait to get the crown moulding up next. But that was not the end of my birthday.

I also received these lovely gits from my family. I love cherry 7 up and Mint Three Musketeers, Thanks Jaysen, Ashlee, and Emilee. I've always wanted an oil and vinegar thing, thanks Austin. And I wanted this green glass soap pump and glass. Wait till I finish my master bath you'll love them in there.

Then all the little kids made these spectacular pictures at Nana's for me. Kids are so cute.

As if that was not enough, after we finished our project and got cleaned up, my wonderful husband took me to this store I've been wanting to check out, Real Deals Home Decor. Guess what I found? This clock that I've wanted. It was only $12. So I snatched it up with my birthday money from my in laws. Show you how great it looks after I paint and put it up!

That still was not the end! We finished the day at my favorite store, DI (used store). I got a book on paint finishes for $1, glass bowl $2, picture frames $3 for all, CD holders $3(really just wanted the handles), candle stick $3, glass tiles 50 cents. What a day. May sound weird but that was the perfect Birthday for me! Thanks to my wonderful kids and husband!

Wish I'd kown it was your birthday, but it looks like you had a good one. You are just so darn handy and creative and I am beyond impressed. I mean it. Love the banner on your blog too. Gotta figure out how to do that. Love the blog. If I can't be creative and handy I love being able to check out someone who is. You and Les are quite the team!
