What does an African and a Pinoneer have in common?

This past week my sister and I took our kids to Heritage Park (which is a replica of a pioneer village).  I've taken my kids there before, but this time was different.  This time we also took Jamal.  Jamal is a 18 year old refugee from Sudan, who is living with my sister. We just love him.  My kids love telling everyone he is their cousin.  Any whoo, this is Jamal.
We went to the first cabin and they were showing the kids how the pioneers did laundry.  As a child this was how Jamal washed his clothes.  So we had him teach our kids.  He was a pro.
Jamal saw a familiar toy, a round piece of metal and a stick.  A pioneer toy or modern day toy? Jamal was again a pro at this pioneer toy that he grew up with.
He taught Quinton and he was doing pretty good also.
It was like going home for Jamal.  It brought the reality of third world countries right to my door step. Some of these pioneer homes were more modern than where Jamal came from.
We had a fun day.  These are just some more pictures of our day.

I love the Pioneer Village!

What an important lesson for us all to remember that the world has many different levels of prosperity...not all have advanced as quickly as the US. It is so important to know about the world as a whole and how we can change it one person at a time. I
m glad that Jamal could have such an opportunity.
