I just wanted to share how my lovely bathroom shutters came about.
(OK, they may not be lovely to everyone but they are to me so work with me!)
When our house was built the builder would not upgrade our bathroom window
to anything but clear glass.
Who wants a 4'x4' picture window over their tub?
Especially since our bathroom window faced the street as well as the community mail boxes.
I loved the light from the window so we put frosted window film on the window.
It worked beautifully while the only light sources was across the room.
Then we added the chandelier over the tub we added a new dimensions to the outside view at night. One night while getting her mail my neighbor got a little silhouetted peep show.
Which she reported to me.
Now what to do?
I loved the light that came in the window and didn't want curtains in the bathroom
with all the trim we were putting around the window.
Then I came across this picture.
It was from a Pottery Barn book.
That was the perfect solution.
So I set to work looking for shutters.
With my measurements in hand I went to the Restore.
And found these lovely babies for $5.
They were too big with all the sections, but we just took out the middle section on both sides.
Les wanted to cut them down a little.
We took just a little off the top and the same off the bottom.
I'm so glad we did.
It was a much better proportion.
I love them.
They look so good with the trim,
let the light in and totally block the view when we use the tub.
Now lets just look at these lovey ladies.
I love how the chandelier is framed by the window opening above the shutters.
These shutters were already the perfect color.
I just scrubbed them down with hot soapy water and touched them up with the trim paint.
We kept the original knob and hook,
only I painted them silver, they were gold.
We opted for new hinges.
These bigger flat hinges were easier to install.
There they are, my bathroom window coverings.
I love them.
I've gotten lots of comments about how my bathroom has inspired others,
that's so exciting to me.
I love to help others as other help inspire me.
That's what's so wonderful about blog land!!!
Thanks for all the wonderful comments.
