Nana's Day - New Banister

Last post before the big reveal of Nana's living room.
As you might recall, Nana had a half wall running alongside her stairs.  Among it's bad points were it's Formica cap and the closed in feeling it gave this rather small room.
I have wanted her to take it out and replace it for a few years now,
but
 it wasn't until Jeff,
 "the cabinet guy,"
suggested it, that she decided to do it!
Go figure; he gets all the luck!!
Once that was decided we just had to take that dang wall down.
First,
we had her electrician move the outlet that was in this half wall.
Then we just took her down one piece at a time.
 Baseboards,
sheet rock,
and then the studs.

I just have to share a story here.
After it was all done and cleaned up Branden told Nana,
"Be careful because without the wall this is dangerous for old ladies. That's you Nana!"
 He went on,
"You could fall down there and no one would be here to help you!"

Out of the mouths of Babes!!!!
lol

Well that was it for our part.
While we were demoing Jeff and Nick from Copper Canyon Design were busy ordering and building parts for the new banister.  Soon we were lounging around watching them install the banister!!
Can I just take a moment to say how much we love these guys' work?
 They built Nana's kitchen cabinets, her new bathroom cabinet, and her fireplace mantel.  They really care about their work and are detail oriented;
something I value.
Plus, they are just all around nice guys.
If you are in the Salt Lake Valley area I highly recommend them.
 Go check them out here!!
OK, enough of my commercial and no they didn't pay me for any of this.
I just like them that much!!!

What do you think?
It really makes the whole room feel bigger and more modern.
Can't wait to show you more of it with all the rest  of the room!!!
Thanks for stopping by.

Wow Rhonda,
What a difference the open space makes! Looks like the craftsman did a very professional job completing the look! Can't wait to see the finished room!

I dream of doing something like this with our stairway one day. I don't like the "wall" feeling. Yours looks great!
