Office Redo - Pull up a vintage stool!

Slowly but surely I am working on the Office!!! 

 Life has a way of changing our plans almost daily!!  

But I wouldn't change a thing. 

As busy and hectic as my life has been lately I have been shown how much my Heavenly Father loves me and is aware of my heart!  

This has given me renewed strength to go on, and go on with a happy peaceful feeling!!  

OK, I got off subject a little,

 but just need to share! 

 Today, I want to talk about the need for extra seating. 

 If you recall I recovered a beautiful office chair for moi,

 but usually I am not alone in my office. 

 Yes, my family seems to follow me from room to room. 

 (Does this happen to you?) 

 I knew they would come so I had better have a place for them to sit.  

There is not much room so I didn't want a chair.  Visually and physically it would be in the way. 

 My first plan was to make a square stool/ottoman that could be pushed partly under the front opening of my desk.  Something like the photo below only covered in a great yellow, blue and green print.

I had a hard time figuring how I wanted to make it for some reason.

  It was just a box, but I just wasn't feeling it. 

 While measuring a chair for the right height measurement Inspiration struck!!

  (Sounds painful but it's not!)

So, although I had most of the supplies for my square ottoman, I also had a free chair!!  

Let me explain.  

A few years ago I pulled these two ladder back rattan chairs out of a dumpster. 

 I was just driving by and saw two perfectly good looking chairs with lots of character. 

 Free for the taking!!  

What's a girl to do, beside pull them out of the dumpster and throw them in her car!

Only problem was when I got them home and sat in them. 

 If you are a board you will love to sit in these chairs. 

 The back goes straight up!! 

 These chairs are great to teach you how to sit up sttrraaiigghhtt!!

(Do you get the idea?)

But now inspiration had struck!

When I told Les my great idea we had a little difference of opion of where to cut it. 

 He thought it would look better if we left part of the back.  So I agreed to try that first and laid the chair up on the chopping block.  

But it still caused your back to go straight up and I just didn't like the look. 

 Les liked it and voted to leave it this way, but nicely said do what you want!! 

 Magic words to me!!

 Two more cuts and I was happy.  

Now, I just had to make the back posts look like the front posts.

  Helloooo  sander!!

After sanding the post round I taped off the rattan seat and got to spray painting.  I knew I wanted a vintage look so I rubbed a wax candle on a few spots before I started painting.  A coat of primmer followed by a few coats of  Krylon Blue Ocean Breeze, and I was ready to distress it. 

 Just a gentle sanding over the waxed spots and the original red paint started peaking through!!!

Here are some close ups.  I love the chippy paint.

I wanted it to feel like I found this really old stool. 

 I really like how it turned out. 

 I'm thinking about doing the same thing with the second chair only painting it yellow.
