My Sisters Basement Part 2 - Basement Remodel

Ready to see the progress on my sister's basement?

I must put a disclaimer in here: 

When I help others I look for ways to help them use what they have and do things for less, but they can choose how much effort they want to put in and how much they want to pay someone else to do it for them.  My sister often will opt to pay someone else.  So her costs are always higher than mine. 

Alright back to our post.

 First they, (she and her husband) framed the fireplace, and then had the fireplace company come and install the fireplace and flue.  They also extended the plumbing over to one of the closests for a bar sink.   

When they finally decided they would take out the closets and put in a built-in "snack kitchen" and cabinetry for the electronics, we had to come up with a new place to store the blankets and board games.  After a bit of brain storming we decided to move it all  under the stairs.  She previously stored all her kids toys there, (a toy room of sorts) but all her kids were too big for toys so it gave her a good excuse to clear it out..  She and one of her giants (sons) demolished the closets one day.

Then she hired a guy to run all the wiring.  

Can I just say, make sure you get all the wiring done while your walls are still open.  We did leave a small opening to run wires later from the electronic cabinet to the back of the TV later as technology changes.  

Then we spent one "Nana's Day" at my sister's puting up sheet rock.

 (Yes, it sometimes takes two of us to get the screws in when your drilling in the ceiling.  Team Work!!!)

After the dry wall guy came and taped and textured it was time to paint. 

 Arlene did that all by her self.  You can see the color in the pictures below. 

 After extensive consultation, 

(she just wanted me to pick)

 she chose Latte by Valspar. We She also picked Steady Brown by Valspar for the far wall and the train track trim. 

After the paint was dry, she called in the big guns, 

(Nana and I) 

to install her TV wall mount.

(OK truth be told we spent a lot of time playing around with the camera!)

(But we did get the job done!!) 

Last of all I want to share what we did with my brother-in-law's train track.  If you recall he had this shelf thing about 10 inches below the ceiling.  And it went all the way around the room.  This was staying, but the brackets he used to put the shelf up stood out like a sore thumb.

(One of my requirements for helping my sister was she had to let me cover up those brackets!!)

My solution?  

Well, first I had her paint the under side of the shelf the dark brown, 

(Valspar Steady Brown).  

Then we found some small crown molding and painted it the same dark brown. 

 We installed it and tada!  No more ugly brackets!

Her room was really long, so we bought her trim at a 

molding shop. 

 We could get 15 and 20 foot lengths, and it actually was cheaper than the big box stores.  

Trim makes everything look better!!
