Today I have the best story about my sister's basement to share!!
But first I want to introduce you to a product I love called Bondera.
I've mentioned it before when we used it on Nana's fireplace here.
You use it in place of the mastic when adhering your tile.
(It can also be used for various craft projects.)
It cost about $40 a roll at Lowe's. It really is easy to use and saves you lots of time and cleanup. It can be installed on any smooth stable surface like drywall, plywood, laminate, Formica or old tile. You just measure, cut, peel and stick.
If I could give one most important piece of advice it would be to spray your scissors with cooking oil. Saves lots of sticky time later.
(I may be speaking from experience.)
You can then stick the tiles to the Bondera and grout immediately, but you must grout within 8 hours.
If you need to they claim you can re-position your tiles for up to twenty minutes.
While working on my sisters basement we decided to use Bondera to install the tile on her back splash.
Arlene and I had picked out these tiles a few months earlier and were very excited to to get them up.
We measured and cut our Bondera, and then stuck it to the wall. That was an easy step. After it was all in place we began to place our tile, until every space was filled with the lovely glass tiles. This step also went very quickly and easy.
What do you think?
Looking good?
Just in case you think every project in blog land turns out PERFECT, I'm here to set you straight!! Look closely at the following collage and you might question,
"Are they putting that tile up or taking it down?"
I could say we were just testing to see if you could really repositition the tile!
Yes, you can take the tile down and it is still sticky enough to re-stick it. Unfortunately we just took it down, because as soon as we finished the very last piece of glass tile we both hated the way it looked.
The problem was the granite like counter top her husband had picked out did not go with the tile. The two were competing with each other an it was just way to busy.
So instead of grouting, we ripped it all down.
Crazy I know!!!!
You can reposition tiles, but that Bondera is stuck to the wall, there was no moving it.
(Which is good to know your tile job is not going anywhere once in place.)
Had we used mastic I'm not so sure taking our tile job down would have been so easy.
What to do now!!
After some quick thinking, we cut bead board to fit the back splash and stuck it in place using the Bondera. It worked great. After a little caulk in the corners and a paint job it all turned out OK.
I'll show you the end result the room reveal.
Would I recommend Bondera?
Yes I would.
In fact I have another project planned in my girls bathroom using Bondera.
I think it lives up to it's claims. It is a time saver and defiantly easier way to tile.
Just make sure you pick out the right tile!!
(I know where you can get a great deal on some slightly used glass tile!!)
Here's a picture of Nana's fireplace that we used Bondera on, just so you can see how it turns out when you leave the tile in place and grout!!
What project would you like to tackle with Bondera?
Well it's your turn to try.
Just to make it easier Bondera gave me a free roll for one of my readers!!
Are ya excited?

I would use the Bondera to tile around the fireplace. This seems like an awesome product.
I would use it in my kitchen to finally get a backsplash up. It's been 10 years of scrubbing the drywall.
I would use it to finally get a backsplash up in the kitchen! It's been 10 long years of scrubbing the drywall.
This has been on my to-do list since I first saw you use it on the fireplace at your mom's house. I want this so bad. I want to do my kitchen backsplash. I may be interested in that tile :) Would you ship to WI? I have a small space and I bet it would be plenty for my kitchen.
Definitely something in the kitchen, either countertops or backsplash.
I would use it to do a backsplash!
I would use it in my kitchen to put up a backsplash behind my oven.
I'll have to keep that in mind. I would love to have a place to use it.
I would like to put up a backsplash in the kitchen
I love this idea, so easy. I would like to try using this to tile a counter top.
OMG! I'm so excited! We want to put bead board on our ceilings in our cottage and I think this will definitely help! My husband and I will be doing some research, but hopefully I will win this roll to check it out. Since we're doing the e n t i r e cottage, we should probably know if this will help....
Oh my goodness, that was quick thinking! I love your Nana's fireplace. I haven't use Bondera but I'll probably use it to tile a table top.
I would luv to use this to put up some tile in our powder room that I am redoing! Have tiled a back splash before the traditional way but this looks way easier!!
My kitchen could use a backsplash!
I'm really interested in trying this -- I have a backsplash to do, but after seeing your pictures, I'm thinking I might do an edge around my fireplace!
This is PEFECT!!!!!!!! This will be a life saver! Perfect timing, if I don't win, I'm most certaintly heading to Lowes. Oh my Bondera, where have you been all my backsplash wanting life?? Thanks for the chance to win :)
