My Sisters Basement Part 5 - The Reveal

Yes, my sister's basement is done! 

 Without further ado let's check out the before!!

And the after!

Now the before of her collage wall.  

And her after where we replaced that collage with some rocking textural wall art. 

(More of that below.)

You guessed it, we put up a new more cohesive collage wall.  

She bought all new frames from Wal-Mart, which we used to surround her new large artwork that her husband picked out.  You can also see kid zone in the back.  

Let's take a closer look at one of my favorite things in the room, that very cool wall art.  It has soooo much texture and it's so unique. It's made from rough multi-colored rope, glued down in circular patterns.  There are three boards and each continues the pattern from the one before.  Each board is about 5' by 2'.  The whole thing takes up about a 5 foot square on the wall.  

That thing must of cost a fortune!!  

Yah, you  know that's not true on my blog!!  

Next your going to guess we made it for really cheap! 

 (No, this is for my sister's house and she is not as crazy as I am and would never spend that much time.)

So where did we get it?  

You had to have guessed we found it at DI. 

(local second hand store.)  

For I think $20.

It was a floor screen.  But some of the hinges were broken.  We just took all the hinges off and mounted these babies to the wall. 

We really wanted something large on this wall to make a statement, but needed it to be fairly flat, so it wouldn't cause issues with the major traffic pattern.  This was the perfect solution.  The fact that my sister is always drawn to textural things made it even more perfect for her home.  

We shopped her house for all the accessories for this room.  They were all things she had, many were things I forced persuaded her to buy  from DI over the years.  Here are some of my very favorites.  The carved camel she had, it was a gift from her mother-in-law's trip to Jerusalem.  The wooden carved tile behind the camel was a forced buy from DI.   This super cool wooden plate with carved out trees was given to her by Nana, 

(cause it wasn't really Nana's style)

The wood chip ball was bought on clearance years ago at Tia Pan Trading, and set in a wire stand thing I forced  helped her buy from DI. 

Above the sink we hung a metal tin, I again had forced helped her pick out at DI.  The candle sticks she already had for quite some time.  And that old wooden box was from Hercules, once a place of employment of her husband.  

I know I'm crazy, but I often buy things from garage sales or second hand stores just because I love them or they speak to me.  I always figure out where to put them latter.

My sister said the collage wall was her favorite thing, because she loves the family pictures.  We filled out the collage with vinyl scrolly things to make it feel more finished.

All in all it turned out great! 

 Most importantly she and her family love it!  

Which is how it should be. 

 We all need our house to reflect who we are and function for how we live! 

I call this one successful room redo!!!
