My pace has slowed to a crawl the last two months. They have been filled with camping, swimming, Trek for 4 of my kids, back to school shopping and such.
But that's a whole other post!
My point is, I finally have another finished project for my room!!
So without further ado, here are my nesting tables.
Wait! I must first give ya a little back ground.
I wanted a small table between my two newly recovered chairs; something to put something pretty on. Oh, and reality says something for Les to use his mouse on when he sits there and uses his laptop. I know from experience he will move my pretties so he can use his mouse. Oh, and I also want to store our speaker/iPod charger there. I thought I really wanted a round table; maybe something gold like this.
I'll just ordered it!!
Yeah right!
You know that is not the Batchelors Way!!!!!
I was continually searching for any type of a round table at all my usual haunts: DI, Salvation Army, the Restore. Nothing! Then one day I went into Savers. I don't go there often because there isn't one very close to me and I find they seem to be priced higher than other second hand stores. But that's not really important to my story. Nevertheless I went into one and came across two cute tables. One was slightly larger and missing the apron on one side. That's when I realized they were suppose to go together. They were nesting tables and slid together. I showed someone who worked there. They were amazed and thought I was very smart.
(At least someone thinks I'm smart!)
I asked if they would sell them as a set and reduce the price since they were originally priced separately.
"NO!"
"We sell everything separately here even salt and pepper shakers are sold separately."
Weird!!!
But my mind was already racing and realizing the small tables would fit perfect between the chairs and the nesting would allow pretties on the top and the smaller table could slide out for Les' mouse with out disturbing said pretties!!
(I know that is probably a run on sentence, but that is how my brain speaks!)
How could I leave such a 'problem solver' set of tables in that store!! So I paid $4.99 for the small one and $6.99 for the larger one.
Here they are!
They had an inlaid boarder around the top which was pretty damaged so I started by filling in the table tops with wood filler to make them smoother. Then I gave them both a light sanding, coat of primer, and then a lovely new splash of BLUE! I had this can of Metallic Cobalt Blue that had been used for one of my boys' pinewood derby cars so I gave it a shot.
Loved it!
It is kinda sparkly blue. It's by Rust-oleum and gives a brilliant metal like finish.
After they were all painted blue they seemed a little bland so I tried adding a green boarder over the old inlay. It was so yucky I didn't even take a picture.
Plan B, I just painted both table tops with the left over free green paint sample I used on my lamp shades. I painted the green with a brush because I was too impatient to get out the roller for such a small impromptu project. I have to admit, there are a few brush marks, but I didn't worry too much because each table came with a piece of glass that fits the top. Once in place they looked as smooth as a babies bottom!
(OK are those really smooth?)
Any ways, here they are all new and improved!
Check them out in their new home between the chairs.
Oh, I almost for got to tell ya, there's a small drawer in the front of the small table,
Can you say Bonus!!
I love the bright colors, especially with my curtains in the back ground.
What do you think?
Wait,
I forgot my favorite part,
what it cost me!

I found nesting tables cost from $100 to $600 a set.
