Old architechural art piece

Just in case you are wondering.....yes, I am still slowly working on my room.  I'm pretty much down to decorating details.  Today I wanted to show you my unique art work for the long wall between the windows.
I wanted something large and simple. I also have been looking for a place to put my birthday gift from 2010. Yes, I bought this salvaged architectural piece for my birthday three years ago for $5!
First I had to give it a good cleaning with some bleach water.  I'm pretty sure that white stuff may be bird poop.  After it was all dry I rubbed it down with some Old English scratch cover oil.

This piece was cool but didn't look quite finished or complete to me.  So I went to the garage and looked for a long board.  I found one and cut it just slightly longer than my salvage piece.  Once my board was the right size I went to my computer, picked my font, and printed out "Established 1992" which is our wedding year.

Once I liked the arrangement I used tracing paper under my design and transferred it to my board.

I painted the board with the left over free green paint sample I used on my lamp shades here.  I then painted the letters and details with cream and brown craft paint.  It looked great but need to look old to go with my salvage piece, so I sanded the front of it and wiped it down with my Old English Oil.  Once it was dry I added small cup hooks and screw eye's so the sign hangs off the salvage piece.

I'm really loving the finished product.

What do you think?
I like having this old looking piece in my more modern crisp looking room.

I'm sooo close to being done with my room!!!!
Stick with me!!
Thanks for stopping by.

It looks great!! I love the wood piece you salvaged and the sign you made. I also think somehow fitting the letter "B", maybe in metal, would look great in that oval space.

Looking forward to seeing your room finished!

I always cringe when someone starts sanding a newly painted piece ... maybe it's the engineer in me. But this time, oh wow! It looks awesome! I just may have to rethink the whole sanding thing.

Ronda, that's the piece I needed to top off my headboard ;) It's beautiful, I love how you restored it. Cool sign.
