Laundry Room

So what's next in my list of projects you ask?
LAUNDRY ROOM!!
I'm just a little excited about this venture, and have been waiting anxiously to get to this very room!!
I have a small laundry room, and a not very well functioning laundry room!
Let's look at exhibit A.

1. Dim lighting-  it's a small room but you need good lighting when dealing with stains.
It's hard when you can't see if the stain is out before you pop something in the dryer.
2.  Who ever thought putting a closet shelf in a laundry room was a good idea?
My towels get stacked too high and topple over making a mess,
and everything is out in the open.
3.  No place to sort/put the dirty laundry.  We have a lot of dirty laundry with eight people and I like the kids to sort it by color when they put it in the laundry room.  Our three dirty clothes baskets pretty much take up almost all the floor space!!
4.  No place to put clean clothes to fold them.

Which brings me to exhibit B.

Currently my front room turns into my laundry room extension every time I do laundry.
(Which is multiple times a week.)
1.  One couch becomes the folding table for clean clothes and for sorting socks!!!
2.  The rest of the room holds traffic blocking baskets for every one's clean clothes.
I'm ready for my laundry chore to be contained in the LAUNDRY ROOM!!

SOOO... what do I want?
1.  Folding table
2.  Dirty clothes bins out of the main floor space
3. Ironing board
4. More/better storage
5. Better lighting
6.  Place to put clean clothes waiting for children to pick up and take to their rooms

That's not much is it?
Check out my Laundry Room Pin Board.
Here is a sneak peek of my initial plan.

Keep in mind I will alter this by what I find.
But here we go!!!
What do you think?
Thanks for stopping by!

we have the same problem going on and its just the two of us. But we both go through at least two outfits a day and that does not include days that we go to the gyms. I always end up sorting all of our dirty laundry in our hallway then the clean clothes get tossed on the couch to be folded and if they don't get folded immediately they just sit there. Unfortunately our laundry room is in our spare bedroom so that is also where all of our other storage goes. I cannot wait to see how your room turns out!

Can't wait to see what you come up with! If you want another set of hands with the work, or just to go shopping, call me! I'd love to come play!

Will follow closely! When we do the addition, we are considering a laundry room / family closet ... well at least all of the kids (6) clothes.

I love your design plan! It is such a good idea to stack your washer and dryer. The blue cabinets and tile backsplash add character to the room. I am excited to see how you do this room on the cheap!

I just saw this amazing transformation on Houzz.com. We have a large family also and are in need of a laundry room makeover. Thank you for the inspiration!
